Obituary:

(NewsOK.com) Dec 21, 1953 - July 4, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Johnny Jay ("John") Breathwit was born December 21, 1953, and died July 4, 2012. He was the second son born to John R. ("Jack") & Carolyn Love Breathwit in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was a basketball standout at Lawton High School, and many of his records remain unbroken. He went on to play for the University of Oklahoma 1972-1974 and Louisiana State University 1975-1977. The friendships he made at those two schools were constants in his life. Johnny married his first wife, Binx Johnson, in June 1974. After graduating from L.S.U., Johnny went to O.U. Law School and graduated in 1982 with numerous honors. He and Binx had one son, Jake, born August 27, 1985. He began his law career at the Andrews Davis law firm. Although he left Andrews Davis in 2000 to start the law firm of Breathwit & Patton, he maintained the greatest respect and affection for his mentors and colleagues at Andrews Davis. Johnny had a "larger than life" personality and an uncanny ability to make friends wherever he went. He was equally at home at a black tie event, a courtroom, a gym or the local bar playing shuffleboard. Johnny also used his talents to help others. He considered the season he volunteered as a basketball coach for inner city kids one of his finest accomplishments. Johnny cared deeply about his family. He was a kind and supportive father and took great pride in his son, Jake. He was also a patient and loving stepfather to David. He married Babette Patton April 27, 1994. They were a great team in life, both in and out of the courtroom. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew and son. Johnny is survived by his wife, Babette; son, Jake; stepson, David Aldridge; mother, Carolyn; brother, Jerry, and sister-in-law, Darrie; niece, Morgan Collier and husband Todd and their children; nephew, John Michael Breathwit and wife Emily and their children; uncle, William C. "Pete" Love and wife Debbie of Haleiwa, HI; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Raye Breathwit; and father, John R. "Jack" Breathwit. Services will be at St. John's Episcopal Church, 5101 N. Brookline, Oklahoma City, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, followed by graveside services in Lawton, OK at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fraxa Research Foundation, 45 Pleasant St, Newburyport, MA 01950.
