Obituary:

John Thomas Skalski, 51, from Argyle Texas, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home in Sharpsburg, Georgia from a heart attack.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. Services to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday, October 22, at 4 p.m. at SouthCrest Church located in Newnan, Georgia.

John was born in Orlando, Florida to Thomas and Margaret Skalski on November 2, 1964. He attended Oklahoma University and the University of North Texas.

His former wife and friend, Mary Ellen Skalski, resides in Texas with their loving daughter, Caitlin Sloan. He is also survived by Sherri Skalski, with whom he recently celebrated 21 years of marriage. They have two loving children, Brenna Elizabeth and James Thomas.

John is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Skalski, and survived by his mother, Margaret Skalski; his sisters, Annamarie Ferguson, Lisa Skalski and Wendy Foster.

John had a successful career as a Supply Chain Sales Professional in Global Logistics – the majority of which were with Burlington Air Express and Ceva Logistics.

John also had a dream early on of opening a daycare and he helped make this a reality with the opening of Stonebridge Early Learning Center nine years ago.

One of John’s true passions was working with young people. John coached youth league football and softball for more than 10 years. He was instrumental in the development of a scholarship program with the Sharpsburg Stallions so more young athletes had an opportunity to participate in the sport he loved so much.

They say the measure of a man is not how he died, but how he lived. Not what did he gain, but what did he give?

In John’s case, that isn’t hard to account for. John Skalski GAVE so much of himself to everyone he met – at work, at home and in the community. He always greeted everyone with a kind smile and loving spirit.

All he loved he loved with complete abandon. His happiest moments were either with his family, on a sports field or working in the yard of the home he loved so dearly.

The family requests that all feel free to come in a shirt or hat or any sports memorabilia in honor of his love for this period of his life. He will be missed by many but his legacy will live forever in our hearts.

Rather than flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Sharpsburg Stallions/Sharpsburg Youth Football, P.O. Box 1568, Sharpsburg, GA 30277.

Condolences may also be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
