Obituary:

(The Oklahoman) Dale Arbuckle, age 102 of OKC, died March 30, 2006. He was born August 21, 1903 in Trenton, MO. He graduated from Enid HS and the University of OK. Upon graduation from OU, the Duncan, OK Board of Education hired him for the HS Coach of Athletics. He coached there for 9 years then practiced law in the Duncan Law firm of L.A. Winans for a short time. However he knew that coaching would be his profession and he continued to coach football at Duncan HS. Recognizing his coaching expertise and his ability to work with young men, Dale was constantly being recruited by various schools and universities, Duncan HS (1927-1936); Central HS, OKC (1936-1940); OU football and athletic director (1940-1946). As a college player he holds the record of intercepting the most passes in any one University game. He was chosen on the All Oklahoma Football Teams of the 1920-1930 era; was one of the organizers of the OK Coaches' Association, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame, was Director of the first OK City HS football previews, was a Director and Charter member of the OKC All Sports Association. In 1946 he resigned from coaching and with three other men he organized and operated John Dunlap Sporting goods, selling athletic equipment to OK schools. This store became the meeting place of OK coaches from throughout the state almost every Saturday. He retired in 1964. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta honorary law fraternity and Phi Gamma Delta Social fraternity. He was an ardent outdoor sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. Dale married Helen Meister on August 15, 1929. They were members of The First Presbyterian Church and he served on the Board of Deacons as well as sponsoring many young people from groups in Duncan, Norman and Oklahoma City. Dale was a living model of excellence for more than a century. He is survived by daughter, Ruth Carolyn Swaim of Woodland Hills, CA.; a grandson, Stanley Swaim; a granddaughter, Sharon Swaim and two great grandsons, Tyrwynn Swaim and Joseph Pickett. Visitation will be 8am-8pm on Monday. Services to celebrate his life will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 4th at First Presbyterian Church Chapel.
