(The Oklahoman) James Travis Hill went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 29, 2007 at age 81. He died a year after courageously fighting from complications of a brain tumor. He was born on March 25, 1925 in Oklahoma City to Fielder Clair Hill and Edith Marie (Travis) Hill. In 1941, he was awarded a Medal by the American Legion for saving a young boy from drowning, while attending Britton High School. In 1943 he joined the Marine Corps and served as a Marine Guard on the Troop Ship 'West Point". After a Medical Discharge from the Marines he Captained the 1944 Classen High School football team to their first State Championship. On July 3, 1945, he married the Love of His Life, Norma Lee Hightower. In the 1945 season he played and lettered in Football at the University of Oklahoma. He played the 1946 season at Oklahoma City University. In 1947 he went into partnership with his Dad to form Midwest Dry Cleaning Supply Company. He had a very successful career as President of Midwest Machinery Co. and Hill Equipment. He continued to be active in business until the development of a brain tumor in October 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Geraldine Brown. He is survived by his wife Norma, son James Hill Jr. of Oklahoma City, and daughter Jane Spears of St. Louis. Mo. He is survived by sister Marge Thomas of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by James Jr.'s wife Rose, daughter Christine Woolston, husband Joseph and daughter Mary; daughter Catherine Hamel, husband Hank, daughter Cathleen; daughter Jennifer Hill, daughter Sophia; son James III, all of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by Jane's husband Ken; son Michael; son Phillip, and his wife Emily, all of St. Louis, MO. James was an avid Rifle Marksman. He won many awards including the prestigious 'NRA Distinguished Highpower Rifleman". He was very active with the Oklahoma City Gun Club, which named the High Power Range after him. He was also very active in the NRA on a National Level and became good friends with the late Joe Foss. At the time of his death he was a member of the Quail Springs Baptist Church. He was loved very much by his family and will be truly missed. He also had many friends and admirers from his associations with competitive shooters and many in the Dry Cleaning industry all over the country. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Vondel Smith Mortuary North Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
