Personal Info

"Coach" Glenn H. Sears died at home on March 14, 2008. Glenn was born in Sand Hill, Oklahoma (outside Marlow), to Rev. Frank D. and Ethel Sears on November 23, 1937. He was a High School All State and All American fullback in Healdton, and set local records that still stand. He amassed 23 touchdowns, 10 extra points, and 1842 yards as a senior totaling over 4000 total yards in high school. After high school he went on scholarship to his beloved Oklahoma Sooners to help them to two Orange Bowls and a National Championship in 1956 as a member of Bud Wilkinson's legendary "SplitT" offense. He was one of eleven athletes representing OU in Colorado at the very first meeting of a new organization called the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Glenn and his high school sweetheart, Kaye Bennett, were married in time to spend their honeymoon at the 1958 Orange Bowl (compliments of OU). After graduating in 1960, he accepted a job at a small private school in Oklahoma City called Casady. He spent the next 35 years of his life dedicated to providing a loving Christian example to thousands of young people. Many will remember the power and beauty of his voice singing in concerts, Christmas pageants, weddings, and plays. He was a member of the choir and frequent soloist at the Village Baptist Church. The Coach spent his retirement years centered on his kids and grandkids, his lake home, fishing, loving Kaye as he had since he 7th grade, and the start of the next football season. Glenn is survived by his wife Kaye Sears, daughter Susan Henry and husband David of Tuttle, daughter Robyn Sears of Edmond, son Chip Sears and wife Sarah of Oklahoma City, 6 loving grandkids, his sister Marlene Newport and brother David Sears. All those who knew and loved his generous nature and loving spirit will miss him. The memories he leaves of love, warmth, and that unmistakable laughter will live on. A Service of Celebration will be at 2:00pm Tuesday, March 18 at the Village Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, followed by a reception in the Glenn Sears Hall of Champions at Casady School. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions should be directed to scholarship funds being established in Glenn's name at Healdton High School Alumni Association or Casady School.
