NORMAN, Okla. (Ticker) -- Fifth-ranked Nebraska chose a reunion of one of college football's bitter rivalries to hand Oklahoma a humiliating defeat, scoring 38 points off turnovers in a 73-21 Big 12 Conference rout of the Sooners.
DeAngelo Evans and Jay Sims each rushed for two touchdowns and Scott Frost passed for three more for the Cornhuskers as Oklahoma allowed the most points and lost by the highest margin in school history. It was the most points allowed by the Sooners since a 59-21 loss at Kansas State in 1969.
Nebraska has won the last six meetings in the once hotly-contested rivalry, including the last two by the combined score of 94-21.
The 73 points were the most by Nebraska since a 77-28 win over Arizona State in 1995. Since a 19-0 loss to Arizona State in September, the Cornhuskers (7-1, 5-0) have won their last six games by the combined score of 313-50.
Evans had touchdown runs of two yards in the second quarter and seven yards in the third to lead Nebraska to its 28th straight conference victory.
The problems began in the second quarter for Oklahoma when Chad Kelsay recovered a fumble by punt returner Jerrail Jackson. The Cornhuskers capitalized with a 25-yard field goal by Kris Brown.
A missed call by the officials helped Nebraska take a 10-0 lead. Vershan Jackson caught a four-yard pass from Frost at the Sooner 2 and appeared to fumble just short of the goal line. The play was ruled dead and Evans followed with a touchdown run.
The Cornhuskers increased their lead to 17-0 at halftime when Jay Foreman intercepted a pass by Justin Fuente in Sooner territory and Ahman Green later scored on a four-yard run.
Eric Moore replaced the ineffective Fuente, but freshman Ralph Brown intercepted one of his passes in the third quarter and returned it 83 yards for a score. It was the third interception return for a score by Nebraska this season.
Frost threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Lance Brown and followed with an 11-yard touchdown strike less than three minutes later. Evans capped the 28-point third quarter with a seven-yard touchdown run, increasing the Cornhuskers' lead to 45-0. Interceptions by Mike Minter and Eric Warfield off consecutive passes by Fuente set up two of the scores.
Frost added a 51-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Lake early in the fourth quarter. Sims had touchdown runs of one and 22 yards and Kenny Cheatam had an 83-yard kickoff return for a score.
The Sooners (2-6, 2-3) avoided a shutout on a 34-yard run by Desmond Parker midway through the fourth quarter. Parker then scored on runs of 17 and 51 yards in the final five minutes. It were the first rushing touchdowns allowed by Nebraska since the season opener.
The win guarantees Nebraska a 35th consecutive winning season.
Oklahoma, which entered the game ranked 103rd nationally in scoring defense, yields an average 40.0 points per game.
