Obituary:

William "Bill" Gordon Gravitt passed away in Burkburnett, Texas at Noon on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018. His wife of 52 years, Rebecca "Becky" Ruth Figley Gravitt, was at his side when he passed. He was 75 years old and suffered from the complications of dementia, but now is at rest.

Bill Gravitt and his fraternal twin brother were born the sons of W.Y. and Lucretia Gravitt in Hugo, Oklahoma on December 26th, 1942. Bill and his brother were high school football stars, helping the Denver City Mustangs win the Texas class AA State Championship in 1960, continuing their football career at the University of Oklahoma (BOOMER SOONER!) and graduating from Southwestern Oklahoma University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Bill was inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in May, 2010.

Bill went on to become a lifelong educator in the Texas public school system, serving as a football coach, Junior High and High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent before retiring in 2007. Bill Gravitt loved his school kids and teachers and was as tough and demanding in his career as he was on the football field. His contributions to the Texas Public School system will be fondly remembered by hundreds of students and teachers who he treated as family during his 40+ years of service.

Mr. Gravitt is survived by his wife Becky, with whom he raised a family in Denver City, Texas. His oldest son, Chris Gravitt, lives in Holliday, Texas with his wife Sonia. Their son Grant is a sophomore baseball player at Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. His youngest son, Bill Jr., resides in Flower Mound, TX with his wife Daphne and son, Greyson, a Sophomore at Marcus High School.

At his sons' request, Bill Gravitt's body was willed to UT Southwestern Medical Center for ongoing research to help those affected by dementia, diabetes, and heart disease.

In lieu of a memorial service or flowers, please send donations to William G. Gravitt Junior High School in Denver City, Texas.
